Starting with version 2.03, there are two new functions that you can use, by enabling handles on cell boxes. (Actually, one of these functions is not really new, it just has a new interface: “update from boxes” was in Tableworks Plus prior to version 2.0, but was implemented from the Table menu.) The new functions are:
• “Update row/column sizes”, to globally resize all rows and columns, adjusting to individual cell size changes.
• A new cell merging method.
To enable drag handles on a cell box, first activate the cell (by clicking in it), then hold down the mouse button (with the cursor over the cell) for a few seconds. The handles will appear. To disable drag handles, hold the the mouse button again for a few seconds. Holding down the mouse button “toggles” the handles on and off.
When handles have been enabled, you can drag one of the handles, as shown below. (This is just like dragging a regular text box.)

After you drag a handle, the following alert will appear:

• If you click Update row/column sizes, this will cause an “update from boxes”. This means that all rows/columns will be re-sized to conform to the longest and widest cell boxes. Any number of cell boxes can be individually re-sized before you click Update row/column sizes. (If you want to re-size more than one box before updating the table, you would click Don’t do anything after each one except the last one, then click Update row/column sizes for the last one.)
• If you click Merge with dragged-over cells, then the cell you dragged will be merged with any cells that are completely covered by the dragged-out cell box. The text in the cell you dragged will be retained; the text in the other cells that are merged will be discarded. This is equivalent to merging by Shift-Control dragging across cells (as described in the User’s Manual).
